I had the opportunity recently to taste some Uncle Sam original cereal. Have you heard of it? Walmart sells that brand, but it's not nestled in the middle of Fruity Circles and Sugar Bombs (names have been changed to protect the guilty). This is healthy cereal; look near the end of the aisle near on the top shelf. Made of toasted whole wheat flakes and flax seed, this cereal has a walloping 10 grams of fiber, 1 gram of sugar and 7 grams of protein per 3/4 cup (according to the Nutrition Facts on the box). I love it. I ate it with and without sweeteners. One day I used a bit of stevia and another I squirted the milk with a dash of agave nectar. It has a nice toasted flavor...quite tasty.
In order to get my kids to eat it, I used it in place of crispy rice in Scotcheroos. If I'd had marshmallows handy, I would have put this cereal in a marshmallow treat. Those crispy rice cereals get all the glory, but they have little fiber and don't add much nutrition to desserts...so why not sneak in some completely healthy cereal instead? My kids gobbled up the bars in no time flat and only one mentioned the fact that there were little seeds (the flax) in his dessert. It would also make delicious granola. I may try that next.

My hubby recently bought some of this cereal, but have not tried it yet.
My kids love cereal and they really love uncle sam cereal. It is really a big help for me instead of cooking heavy breakfast my kids love cereal with lots of milk.

I've not had it, but want to try it! I've seen it in the stores. GREAT idea about using it in place of other cereals for desserts!
Haven't tried it, as I usually make my own granola. But would love to...for my lazier days, lol
My husband loves his cereal with rice milk...
Wow! I'd never heard of them but I'm anxious to try. My five year old eats crisp rice cereal and graham crackers like it's his job, and a brown rice/low sugar alternative would be great.
