***CLOSED***Welch's Juice Coupon Giveaway and Health History

February is National Heart Month.  There are all sorts of activities going on throughout the web.  Welch's Grape Juice has launched a new resource on their website called Welch's Family Vine Tool that allows people to trace their health history.  I went over and tried it out.  For any of you that are particularly afraid of releasing too much information on the internet, it can be as anonymous as you want (I used nicknames and/or pseudonyms for my family members).  You also can just put in the age of people, not their birth dates.  I liked the idea of having all of my family's health history on one (or five) pages, however, some of the diseases in my family tree aren't the normal, run of the mill types, so I had to put "other" in a lot of places.  Once I printed it, I went back and filled in the details.  Also, the tool didn't have an option for "accidental death" under reasons for death.  Now, though, I have something I can take to the doctor.  I don't always remember all of the health issues of my aunts or grandparents.  This will be a simple way to make sure nothing is left out.

It was slightly depressing to look at my finished chart.  Two of my grandparents died of Alzheimer's/dementia.  Both of my parents and two of my grandparents have or had thyroid disease....and so do I.  Diabetes is rampant on my father's side.  Arthritis and osteoporosis is everywhere.  There is a genetic clotting disorder and an auto-immune disorder as well as some heart defects and degenerative diseases.   Ugh.

On a happier note, Welch's Juice sent me five coupons for a free bottle of juice (up to 96 ounces or $5.99 off)  for me to give away to five different people.  Just leave a comment here and I will pick five winners on Wednesday, March 2 through a random number generator.  US mailing addresses only, please.  Make sure to include some way for me to get in touch with you in your comment (either a blog link or an email).  I will email the winners for mailing addresses and then send out the coupons myself.

Welch's has long been one of my favorite brands of juice.  From their frozen concentrates to their 100% grape juice, I have been drinking it since I was a kid.  My kids love their white grape/peach combo, while I am more of a purist, liking the purple grape juice the best.    I often use their juice as a sweet wine substitute in  savory dishes.  I found a free recipe booklet that you can download from the Welch's site here.  I am looking forward to trying the grape berry muffin recipe.

Being aware of what diseases you're susceptible to getting is the first step in preventing them from happening! So really, you should think of this as a way to take charge of your health! So glad you did this!

Reading entries like this make me wonder if being adopted is good, I'm in the med history dark, or OHMYGOSH, I'm in the dark about my med history!!! :O I'm glad that with our kids' adoptions, we were given a good amount of medical history. The difference in adoptions over 30-40 years has been amazing! Oh and I am totally checking out the recipes, I never thought to cook with grape juice!

It is so surprising how little it takes for us to improve our health and it is so sad that so little people are ready to take that first step! Thank you for sharing the awarness on your blog. I'm especially excited about Pears Poached in the Grape Juice recipe (I checked and bookmarked the recipes before commenting)! Have a great Saturday evening :)

That sounds like an interesting tool you used. By the way, I love grape juice. One of my favorite things to do is add it to a no-cal sparkling water for a little kick!

Sounds like an interesting tool. It's always nice to know a family history but I guess it can be scary.

Even though it can be discouraging to see all the diseases that are common in your family, it can also be empowering. I have a similarly colorful health family tree, and I'm trying to work my hardest at preventing those diseases in my own life. Thanks for sharing tonight. And thanks for hosting this giveaway. I hope you have a restful Sunday full of love and laughter!
