Pork and Beans

I went to a picnic last year with a bunch of neighbors. One gentleman brought a huge pot of beans and said it was a secret recipe from a famous restaurant chain in the South. I wish I had paid enough attention to the name to be able to tell you which restaurant; maybe someone would recognize it. Anyway, long story short, those beans were amazing! Knowing that said neighbor was not about to divulge any of the recipe, I had to eat with a scientific tongue. Then I came home and started surfing the internet for something that seemed similar. Here is what I came up with:

Barbecue Beans
3 cans white beans
1 1/2 cups shredded pork roast (or any other pork you may happen to have)
1 cup barbecue sauce (we like Tony Romas)
2 Tbls brown sugar
1/2 Tbls chili powder
2 tsp liquid smoke
1/2 cup ketchup
1/2 cup water
Combine all ingredients in a pot on the stove. Cook on medium until it bubbles. Simmer 15 minutes.

These are on the menu this week, along with
Homemade Macaroni and Cheese
Cornflake Chicken
Skillet Spaghetti
Grilled Fish and Potatoes
Stir Fry
and a new thing: each Sunday, one of my boys gets to cook dinner. The Comedian is up this week and we haven't decided what he will prepare.
Lunch and Breakfast will be the old stand-bys
Dessert is TBA.
I am learning to cook/bake when the outside temperatures are sky-rocketing. My new best friends: the largest toaster oven I have ever come across (fits 9 x 13 pan) and my electric pressure cooker.

Those sound really good. My house full of men would love them. I like how you combined a recipe with your menu plan, great for a single post. I may have to try that.
Thanks for sharing!
