About 5 years ago, Albertsons and Betty Crocker did a very sneaky thing to me. They ran a special on Warm Delights for about $.69/big package. It was a bargain and I bought 10 for my boys to make when they wanted to "cook." Little did I know that that little treat would result in years of teasing for more. Never again have I seen them so cheap, so, frankly, never again have I bought them. I endured the teasing until in desperation, I went searching for a homemade version.
For the price of one cake mix (about a $1 or less) and a few extras (like 1 tsp of hot fudge sauce or jam or caramel sauce),my kids can whip up anywhere from 6 to 8 warm delights. Oh, how I love to save money!!!
Warm Delights:
1/4 cup cake mix (any flavor)
1/8 cup water
1-2 tsp filling of your choice: caramel, hot fudge, strawberry jam, coconut, marshmallow, nuts, peanut butter, choc chips, your imagination can go wild here.
In microwave safe cereal sized bowl, stir water into cake mix.

Dollop on the filling.

Microwave for 1 minute. (time may differ with each microwave...start low so you don't burn it). Filling will be HOT, so let sit 3 minutes before eating.

Here we have chocolate cake with hot fudge and strawberry filling and yellow cake mix with caramel filling. The yellow one cooked too long (I cannot tell my teenager anything these days!), so it sort of exploded all over.

Amazing ~ I love warm delights & am so excited to try out this recipe!! :)
YUMMY!! I can't wait to try it!
How great and easy!! Thanks for the recipe and linking up to TMTT.
Looks yummy but I kind of wish I didn't know about this ;)
Never heard of warm delights, but those look tasty.
Awesome! My kids love these too but I don't buy them because they're too expensive. I will try this for sure!
seriously?! cake, in a bowl. made for just me?! that is amazing.
I've never been able to buy warm delights due to allergies, now, I can make my own!!! thank you.
What a truly wonderful way to make your own. We buy the boxes of cake on sale for $1 also. What a bargain.
What a great idea! I've never tried the warm delights but have wanted to for a while. I just can't get myself to pay for them! I will be making these with my daughter soon. Thanks for sharing!
This is kind of what I call cake in a cup, Only you don't add egg or oil. I like the sounds of this much better.
That looks so fast and easy! Great recipe!!
Thanks for linking up with TATT. :-)
It's official. You have made me wish I still had a microwave. This will be a passing feeling, but for the time being, it stings. ;)
This looks so good, and it's really great for me because I was always too cheap to buy the brand ones in the store! Thank you! Also wanted to let you know that I posted the recipes for the "summer fun w/ your kids projects" that I blogged about last week-it's on today's post if you're interested.
I've been thinking about doing this myself, but I was unsure of how much cake mix/water to use. I love the warm delights, but it seems so ridiculous to pay more for less. The five minute chocolate mug cake recipe was a pretty good alternative, but now I'll definitely be trying your method.
MMM..this dessert must taste fabulous! easy yet so yummie!
Thanks!
I tried this out and it's delicious... even without anything in the middle :)
May I post the recipe to my site?
Holy Moses - I saw this (and the link here) on Snow White's site - absolutely fabulous. My daughter loves those warm dessert things - that are so expensive - this will be great.
Thanks for the idea. I have found yet another blog to follow with wonderful recipes and ideas.
This should be called heaven in a bowl. Mmmmm so good.
I've been making, eating, loving, and sharing this dessert idea with others--thanks for the directions for a quick and easy dessert.
Thanks for sharing this recipe. I love doing research, but you beat me to it here. Love that.....
Ann Kroeker shared this with us at her site on her Food on Fridays meme. Thanks for sharing with her, so she could share with us!
